About Irvington Community Schools

Irvington Community School is unique as a public charter school in many ways. Among them:

Size

The ICS is and will remain a small elementary school serving just over 400 students, which greatly enhances our ability to implement programs and provide students individual attention in their educational development.

School Year

The ICS has one of the first truly year-round schools in Indiana, offering a 200-day academic schedule for students, along with an expanded daily schedule.

Community-Based Philosophy

At the heart of our school, the ICS has a strong community focus. Notably, our community-oriented Board of Directors and our School Advisory Board (SAC) help to guide the operations of the school according to the ICS mission and vision.

Curriculum

The ICS employs textbooks from Scott Foresman and Prentice-Hall, along with technological curricula from Pearson Digital Learning (SuccessMaker® and KnowledgeBox®) and Plato Learning™. These research-based tools allow our teachers to hone in on the individual needs of their students.

The ICS curriculum also offers students robust fine art and music programming. As well, all students receive 120-180 minutes of innovative and invigorating physical education each week, which includes leadership and team-building exercises.

Assessment

Along with the state-mandated ISTEP test, ICS students are tested twice annually with the Northwest Evaluation Association's (NWEA) Measures of Academic Progress (MAP) tests, a battery of computerized standardized tests focusing on students' reading, mathematics, and language usage ability. The MAP tests provide instantaneous results and track students' progress over time on a continuum.

Being a small elementary school serving just over 400 students, we have the ability to provide students individual attention.
