Achievements
The ICS is proud of its many achievements during the past six years. Among them are:
- The growth of the ICS, from 115 K-5 students in 2002 to 534 K-10 students by the 2007-2008 school year
- The construction and opening of the K-8 school on E. Julian Avenue in 2004
- The property acquisition, renovation, and opening of the Irvington Community High School in 2006
- Twenty-eight percent of the K-8 student body received either the Presidential Physical Fitness Award and/or the National Physical Fitness Award during the 2006-2007 school year
- Recipient of the National Charter Schools Week Proclamation signed by President George W. Bush, May 2005
- Participant in the Keep Indianapolis Beautiful, Inc.'s Partners in the Environment school grounds beautification program; projects have included the creation of the ICS outdoor classroom; extensive tree, shrub, perennial, and bulb plantings; and woodland, detention pond, and Pennsy Trail cleanup
