Discipline Policy
As stated in the Irvington Community School’s original submission to Ball State University:
“The Board believes it is crucial to the success of the school that the lead teacher, teachers, classroom aides, and members of the School Advisory Committee all have an opportunity to help design the behavior and discipline codes."
“The Board agrees, however, that the following components should be part of any resultant policy:
- The Golden Rule should be the moral code for all students and staff to follow.
- All due process required by law must be strictly followed.
- Contracts should be developed and signed by all parents, students, and staff.
- The behavioral/discipline code should be based on positive reinforcement.
- Especially for older students, discipline should include reflective exercises, which remind the student of the mission of the school and tie back to the student’s contract with the ICS.
- Corporal punishment should not be part of the Irvington Community School.
- Uniforms should be…worn by all ICS students.”
The attached “Rights and Responsibilities” were developed in cooperation with the School Advisory Committee, the School President, ICS staff, and the Board of Directors, and then were passed by resolution of the Board and submitted to Ball State University.
Any discipline procedures and policies adopted must be compatible with this template.
