1 To send their child to a school that respects and values learning To instill in their child the value of an education To miss an opportunity for their child to acquire an education that will help them throughout life
2 To have recognized their child's individual academic growth To work with school personnel to help their child progress, including study at home when necessary To miss an opportunity for their child to acquire an education that will help them throughout life
3 To expect the school to maintain high academic standards, to follow its mission statement, and to fulfill its charter contract with Ball State University To support the school in its mission and to become familiar with the educational program and goals; to spend 20 hours total every school year volunteering, visiting the classroom, attending meetings or events To miss an opportunity for their child to acquire an education that will help them throughout life; to miss an opportunity to be truly involved in their child's educational experience
4 To send their child to a school that regularly measures and reports individual, classroom, and institutional academic progress To review and respond to communications regarding academic progress To not know what progress their child is making in school
5 To regularly receive communications regarding their children's academic progress and behavior To listen objectively and respond to school personnel and their comments and concerns, and attend quarterly parent-teacher conferences To miss the opportunity to better understand their child's educational experiences, and to help their teacher better educate their child
6 To have clear and understandable rules for their child's classroom, with discipline carried out in a fair and equitable manner To support the classroom teachers rules, and to communicate any concerns to the teacher Teacher's efforts to provide a superior education are compromised
7 To expect classroom disruptions to be dealt with fairly, firmly, and quickly To instill in their child a sense of responsibility To miss opportunities to teach their child not only lessons in education but also in life
8 To expect their child to be dealt with in a nondiscriminatory manner, recognizing his or her uniqueness and rights To help the classroom teacher learn about their child Keeps the teacher from being able to better educate their child
9 To review the child's academic progress through the K12 online assessment, and to bring any concerns to the attention of the classroom teacher To explain to their child the disciplinary procedures of the school and to emphasize the importance of following the rules; to communicate their support of the school rules to the student Keeps both their child and other students from a quiet, disciplined environment that gives all students the opportunity to learn
10 To have communicated any concerns about their child's behavior before the classroom teacher speaks with anyone else (except in emergency situations) To address grievances concerning their child in an objective manner, and to cooperate in the resolution of those grievances Loss of a healthy and growing relationship with their teachers
11 All parental rights guaranteed by the Family Education Privacy Act PL 93-380 To determine the facts of any situation before passing judgment.To recognize that school personnel must necessarily concern themselves with education Loss of a healthy and growing relationship with their teachers
