Before/After Care
As a service to our parents who desire convenient, cost-effective, reliable daycare for their children immediately before and after school hours, the Irvington Community School offers a Before Care and After Care program.
Before Care
The ICS opens its doors for the school day at 7 a.m. each morning. Students who arrive at this time and up until 7:45 a.m. report to the gym (using the school's north entry doors) for Before Care, which is supervised by Brendan Dubree. A modest breakfast is served between 7 - 7:30 a.m. Students may watch the DVD movie being shown, do homework, read, or socialize quietly.
The Before Care rate is $2.50 per hour, billed in 15-minute increments, and is only billable between 7 - 7:30 a.m. (amounting to 2.5 hours of maximum billable time per week). Free/Reduced fees are also available to those families that qualify for the program (which also includes After Care fees). For more information, please contact Cindy Sum, ICS staff accountant, at 357-3770 x1010 or csum@ics-charter.org.
After Care
At 3:20 p.m. each school day, students remaining at school for 4 o'clock pickup or awaiting their parents picking them up at school between 4 - 6 p.m. have several options for activities. If students are maintaining a C average or above, they may attend an after-school club or report to the gym for After Care. Students may also elect to stay in their class and work on homework. Students requiring tutoring, most notably those performing below a C average, receive this assistance from tutors and teachers in their classrooms.
Here's the After Care Program schedule:
- 3:20 – 4 p.m.
- Students engage in the first planned activity for the day, either crafts, academics, or board games. A homework table is also available from 3:20-6 p.m.
- 4 - 6 p.m.
- This is the billable time period for our After Care. Students will continue to rotate through activity stations, and a snack and drink will be served. Students may be allowed to recreate at the playground after 4:30 p.m., weather permitting, per the After Care Director's decision. For the sake of safety and age appropriateness, K-3 grade and 4-8 grade groups will take turns using the playground. Of note, After Care student enrichment programs will be offered occasionally, featuring programming such as African Drums, Origami, macrame, scrapbooking, and Taekwondo.
The ICS After Care Program is staffed by program director Shameka Alford, ICS employees, and ICHS students. Our high school students participate in the program based on academic performance, maturity level, and ongoing performance as ICS paid employees, and they must receive an endorsement from ICHS Lead Teacher Russ Simnick. (ICHS students interested in working in the After Care Program should first contact .)
Fees
After Care is billed beginning at 4 p.m. at $4.25 per hour, in 15-minute increments (amounting to 10 hours of maximum billable time per week). Children must be picked up by 6 p.m. Parents who do not pick up their child/children by 6 p.m. may be subject to an additional charge.
Please note: An additional 15 percent discount on all Before and After Care hours is given for all students who average one hour per day (or 40 percent of total available billable time) in either Before or After Care.
Parents of children participating in our Before and After Care Program are billed monthly. We accept cash, check, credit card, or ACH (Automatic Clearing House).
Discipline
Please note that the ICS discipline standards are maintained during Before and After Care hours. Students who misbehave will be immediately addressed and may be referred to the ICS Behavior Coaches for further action. As well, Before and/or After Care participation may be revoked. If a child receives 3 behavior notes from the After Care Director for his/her parents, the child will be suspended from participating in the ICS After Care program for one week and parents will be asked to make other arrangements during that time. If the child's behavior continues to be problematic, a meeting will be arranged with the ICS After Care Director, Client Services Manager, and Control Desk Associate to discuss with the parents the child's future involvement in the program.
Pick-up
When picking up your child from After Care, please remain outside the gym doors. The Control Desk Associate will communicate with the After Care Director to release the child. This avoids interrupting activities in progress. You will be asked to record your signature in the sign-out sheet at the Control Desk while the After Care Director summons your child for you. If the Control Desk Associate is not familiar with a designated pick-up person, he/she will be required to present identification before the child is released. If that person in question is not on the parent-approved pick-up list, the child will not be released.
