Lighthouse Leaders
A key part of the Irvington Community School's focus on student growth involves character development. To advance this aim, school President Tim Ehrgott created the Lighthouse Leaders Recognition Program to encourage students to strive to develop greater character.
Each Friday, every K-6 class and middle school homeroom teacher submits the name of the student who best represented the character trait of the week to Mr. Ehrgott. Among others, these traits include respect, self-discipline, excellence, honesty, civility, and caring. Lighthouse Leaders' names then appear in the school newsletter, which is published every Friday afternoon.
Lighthouse Leaders are also recognized every Monday morning by the ICS Behavior Coaching Team. The team goes to each classroom and presents the previous weeks' Lighthouse Leaders with a small prize and a certificate, another way of publicly acknowledging and commending our students' character development.
