Irvington has a rich history, founded on academics. As the original home to Butler University, the community served as home to many of the leading artists and academics of the early 20th Century. With appreciation for Irvington’s past distinction, ICHS is forging a new path by providing leading-edge education to keep our community strong. In fact, we are doing nothing less than Building New Traditions in Irvington.
Taking an approach of measured, controlled growth, ICHS opened with 45 9th grade students for the 2006/07 school year. Enrollment increased to 120 in the 2007/08 year, as ICHS opened up 10th grade. The school will enroll approximately 200 students for the 2008/09 academic year, serving students in grades 9-11. When expansion is complete, ICHS will serve no more than 400 students in grades 9-12 – a number designed to allow ICHS to maintain the small school attributes responsible for our success. |
Our Focus
Take a small school with a college preparatory, liberal arts curriculum. Add a strong faculty that implements best practices such as service learning, differentiated instruction, freshman mentoring, academic advisory program, weekly Town Hall meetings, Advanced Placement (AP) and dual-college credit classes. Now, you have a glimpse of the Irvington Community High School.
Emphasizing college preparedness and a commitment to cultural electives, ICHS offers a challenging curriculum designed to prepare students for success in college and career pursuits. Please see our Curriculum section for detailed information about academics at ICHS. |
