The ICES Lighthouse Leader Program promotes character development and acknowledges student growth in this key area.
All ICES students learn the importance of being involved members of their school and greater community.
is attained through small class size, differentiated instruction by highly qualified teachers, and a rigorous curriculum.
An important part of the Irvington Community Elementary School's focus on student growth involves character development. The Lighthouse Leader program is used to recognize students who exemplify outstanding character and set good examples for other students to follow.
Weekly Lighthouse Leaders are nominated by their classroom teachers based upon who has best demonstrated that month’s character trait throughout the week. These character traits include: respect, responsibility, safety, involvement, self-discipline, integrity, compassion, fairness, citizenship, perseverance, and honesty.
On Fridays, the Lighthouse Leader for each class is revealed during morning announcements made to the entire student body. The Lighthouse Leaders then report to the main office to have their photos taken and receive a certificate and prize. Photos of the Lighthouse Leaders are then on display the following week in the main office for visitors to see. Lighthouse Leaders are also recognized by the ICES Behavior Coach with a small prize and certificate, another way of publicly acknowledging and commending our students' character development.
The ICES Lighthouse Leaders are shining examples in our school, leading other students toward better decisions and helping make our school a great place to learn!
