Don’t Miss Tonight’s PTSA Meeting’s Information Session on ADHD
This evening at 6:30 p.m., Tonya Hegwood, a social worker with the Indiana Hemophilia and Thrombosis Center, will be presenting on Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD). This common disorder in children can make life difficult for families. But there are ways to effectively manage the condition. Understanding ADHD is essential to parents and guardians in having the best outcomes.
Ms. Hegwood will cover the following questions – and more – during her presentation:
1. How is ADHD acquired – through environmental causes and/or from genetics, or in other ways?
2. How early does ADHD manifest itself in children?
3. Is ADHD a permanent condition once acquired?
4. What is the difference between ADD and ADHD?
5. What alternatives to medication are there in managing the condition, such as behavior modification techniques?
6. What is the difference between “normal” hyperactivity that children exhibit and that of a child who is diagnosed with ADHD?
7. Is ADHD more prominent in boys than girls, or vice versa? And what is the percentage breakdown of occurrence per gender?
8. What recent developments have there been in the diagnosis and treatment of ADHD?
9. What medical expert should be approached to correctly diagnose and treat a child showing ADHD symptoms? A child psychologist? Pediatrician?
10. What advice do you have for parents of a child with ADHD as to how they should work with their child to get the best possible behavior and academic performance results?
Ms. Hegwood will also be answering questions from the audience. For those of you who have children or grandchildren with ADHD, are care providers for these kids, or would simply like to learn more about this disorder, you won't want to miss this presentation.
