Join us for Family Fitness Night This Friday, April 25, 7-9 p.m.
The Irvington Community School is hosting a very special first-time event for our community this Friday evening, from 7-9 p.m., in the ICS Gym. Family Fitness Night is the brainchild of the ICS Wellness Team, which is coordinated by physical education teacher Jennifer McNeely. The goal of Family Fitness Night is to promote wellness for our entire school community. "We want to provide a safe, fun, and stimulating environment for all to enjoy," says Mrs. McNeely.
Families are invited to try out our rock-climbing wall, negotiate an obstacle course, run races, go on a group walk, do some "Hula-Hooping" and jump rope – and more! Medical professionals will also be on hand, including our school nurse, Brooke Robeson, BSN, offering wellness evaluations including BMI (body mass index) checks, height and weight measurements, blood pressure readings, and nutrition counseling. As well, cholesterol readings and blood sugar screenings will be available, as a combined test for a $5 fee (this covers the cost of supplies/materials - cash or check made payable to "Community Health Promotions Services"; also, please note that this test involves a finger stick). And, healthful recipes and nutrition packets will be distributed to participants.
Feel free to bring a friend for a night of family fitness fun and wellness education. If you have any questions, contact .
BY THE WAY…Would you like to get a pedometer and participate in Gov. Mitch Daniels’ INShape Indiana’s Ready, Set Walk! Program? The program launched April 14th – but it’s not too late to get started! To register, go to: InShape Indiana.
