First Family Fitness Night One of Many to Come
On the beautiful spring evening of Friday, April 25, 2008, the ICS Wellness Committee sponsored a first of what promises to be many Family Fitness Nights to come.
More than 100 students, parents, friends, teachers, and volunteers came together to exercise and learn more about wellness. Because the weather cooperated nicely, outside, participants went on walks and played a variety of games, such as Cornhole and Hula Hooping. Inside, the games people played included a variety of challenging relay races in the hallway, a thrilling obstacle course in the gym, and people of all ages trying their hands – and feet! – on the rock wall climb. In addition, a team of medical professionals, including our school nurse, Brooke Robeson, offered cholesterol and blood sugar screenings, body mass index (BMI) readings, blood pressure checks, and more. Nutritional information was also readily available, promoted as part of the mandate of the ICS Wellness Policy. (The policy is to be reviewed at the next ICS Board of Directors meeting on Tuesday, May 13. Once approved, the policy will be posted on the ICS website on the Policies & Handbooks page for your convenience.)
The ICS appreciates the efforts of the Wellness Committee for making this special evening such a great success. And, thanks to our community volunteers and our families for their interest in this life-enhancing program and their enthusiastic participation. Because of the excellent response, we plan to make a habit out of this event. Be sure to check the ICS website calendar during the 2008-2009 school year for announcements regarding the next Family Fitness Night.
