Irvington’s Annual Halloween Festival Is Once Again a Fond Memory…
The 62nd annual Historic Irvington Halloween Festival took place this year, appropriately enough, on Halloween, which fell on a Saturday. The weather declared that it's certainly autumn, with the sun flitting in and out of the fast-moving low-ceiling clouds, the occasional threat of rain, and temperatures in the low 50s that felt much colder due to the wind making its presence felt. Fickle weather notwithstanding, there was much joy to be seen and experienced, as costumed revelers – both children and adult – made their way up and down East Washington Street, stopping by the many booths sponsored by neighborhood businesses and organizations with their wares on display. And of course, as the day progressed it turned into a “dog day afternoon,” with canines of all shapes and sizes and fur lengths accompanying their costumed owners, some dogs “lucky” enough to be wearing costumes of their own, drawing even greater attention.
Irvington Community School and Irvington Preparatory Academy were well represented at the annual event, sharing booth space with the ICS Parent Teacher Student Association Chapter and the ICS-sponsored Cub Scout Troop,. School managers, high school students, and PTSA members and ICS parents kindly staffed the booths. Our special thanks to all who volunteered, including: Christina McVicker, Julie Gries, Terra Skidmore. Jennifer Kitterman, Dianna Miller, Cindy Richardson, and Elaine Carter.
Now Halloween fans will have to be satisfied with their memories as they wait patiently for another turning of the leaves signaling the arrival of the 63rd annual Historic Irvington Halloween Festival. Meanwhile, here are several photos of some of the many characters that made this year's festival such a memorable event:
1. Darth and Company smile(?) for the camera.
2. "One Dog Knight" allows some Irvington villagers a closer look.
3. The Cat in the Hat is pointed out by some...Things.
4. ICS/IPA President Tim Ehrgott chats with several of the IPA high school students who generously gave of their time to help out at the booth.
