ICS Jump Rope for Heart Raises $2,414

For the fifth straight year, ICS students participated in the annual American Heart Association’s Jump Rope for Heart national fundraising program. The event took place on Friday, Nov. 16. The program is sponsored by the American Alliance for Health, Physical Education, Recreation and Dance (AAHPERD).

As the AHA website notes, “This educational program teaches physical fitness and promotes the value of community service to students and their families. It shows students that they can contribute to their community’s welfare."

ICS Physical Education teacher Shelly Stanton reports that the cumulative amount of donations raised by ICS students for Jump Rope for Heart since 2002 is now $12,000, thanks to the fundraising efforts of students this year.,

Last month, ICS students raised $2,414. First grader Moira Himes, Jodie Lannan’s student, collected $217 in donations, tops for the school. ICS 7th and 8th grade students collected $700, a record amount for those grades. Seventh-grader Kayla Dozier collect $185, the highest individual amount for the 7th and 8th grade classes.

During the Jump Rope for Heart Celebration Day at ICS, each Physical Education class learned about healthy food choices, experienced a variety of activities through stations set up in the gym, and had the opportunity to get blood pressure and heart rate checks.

Thanks to all for supporting the students in their excellent fundraising efforts for this worthwhile community cause.
